For fans of early Red Krayola and Broken Penis Orchestra. Still the best band in Montreal.

This emission is testament to their handiwork... Dollops of seafoam nausea seethe in the tumult of tape-manipulated vocals while hypocritical sheets of electronic sunburn blaspheme immodest keyboard vendettas... Kind of like eating a mustard gas sandwich while you're pregnant. Comes in a package of 4 double-sided silkscreened patches on organic-cotton, and another board thing that's pretty good, i guess...

This little number marks Bram Deven's second helping on Beniffer after the hugely successful (for us) cassette a couple of years ago. Fans of Ignatz will notice that there is something noticeably different about this compared to Bram's earlier overcast transmissions - a certain amount of, dare I say overtness? Which isn't to say that it is completely lacking in the cavernous brume of his signature blues-lathered night-vision psalms... No nono n o n ooo, these songs have been growing in the same mildewy place under the mattress, the creative undergrowth that inflamed the minds of other downer-folk heros such as Dave Bixby, Jakob Olausson and Alexander Spence, but this time recorded on a clean, de-magnitized tape with percussion and organ accompaniment. PON DE REPLAY

This nugget was recorded on my computer last year by Brian Seeger while I was away at work. He was here on business pitching tofu roast to the Don Jail culinary staff and i booked him to play my living room. Here is the unexpurgated document of what transpired the morning after said gig. For those of you that aren't yet hip to Seeger's deep loop agenda this is the perfect introduction. This thick jammer is a serpentine dawdle down the corn-row ouroboros of magnetic infinitude; a tape-loop lasso encircling the gamut of aural intention and chance; clarinet and pre-recorded sources run, smear and bitchslaps into and against each other, always on the brim of the gaping black-hole like chasm of analogue delay but never plummeting indefinitely into the slick-rick everlasting-land like so many of his contemporaries.

AYAL SENIOR space cakes

" Incredible-sounding records that are far too short are extremely frustrating. A prime example is the solo debut from former Herschel Savage and the American Flag member, Ayal Senior. At less than 20 minutes, ?Space Cakes? contains only enough gorgeous guitar/keyboard melodies to merely whet the appetite. If it weren?t for the ?repeat? setting on my CD player, I think I?d lose my mind!!

Senior is a veteran of Toronto?s growing freak scene, playing in the aforementioned HSAF, collaborating with a number of likeminded Torontonian weirdos, and ? oddly enough ? writing the introduction to ?Vampire Vultures,? John Fahey?s posthumous follow-up to ?How Bluegrass Destroyed my Life.? As a solo artist, he combines idiosyncratic synth-pop with rollicking folk guitar to craft a distinctive sound: bedroom psych for extraterrestrial loners. ?Space Cakes? is primarily an instruments-only affair. It isn?t until the closing track, a pure gem of a song, that Senior unveils his soft, mellifluous voice. Perhaps if the album were longer, we?d get to hear more of his gentle crooning. So here it is, a full length release of sorts. If you are familiar with ayal's releases on beniffer, you get snippets of pop beauty. A mind that simply cannot keep still. Ayal, on this release hesitates to end his tracks quickly. Instead he develops his craft from snippets of space dust to full blown psych gems.

Suzy Poling from California has had her chops in the blustering aural stew as Pod Blotz for some time now, wringing the impossible out of a drift of craptronics and alchemical grease. Here the blotz is a series of Orca farts into the ruminative spend of Hades all wadded up in the biggest Kleenex disaster that threatens to tear under the peril of the whales noxious wind. All this drama bubbles to the surface of – you guessed it! – a bog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blood Stereo is Karen Constance and Chocolate Spunks big cheese Dylan Nyoukis from Brighton, UK. Their craft was scraped from the woozy corduroy centrifuge where the tape sneezed and the worlds tallest slot machine apologized for its incessant dispensation of rubber bullets.

"Unlikely issue of a collection spanning the decade 1988-98 from this obscure American savant-punk outsider. Tales of Batson's cracked reign are thin on the ground, as he seems to have spent long periods completely off the map, but eyewitness reports include shows with him dressed as a minister, addressing the crowd from a makeshift pulpit, and a notorious gig where he set his head on fire while wearing a crash helmet and leathers. His musical persona is informed by the kind of oddball avant garde personas favoured by Zappa's Bizarre/ Straight label (cf Captain Beefhart/Wild Man Fischer), filtered through a post-punk 1980's mindset. DEEPKISS 720 cazworld

We still cannot afford to design our own die cuts, so you gotta cut all the details out one at a time. No biggie, i wasn't leaving my house or anything! I just wanted to swan dive with an exacto knife. Which I discovered later was actually an art process known as 'dragon tailing' when you jigsaw forms becoming round shapes out of anything large. it was a pretty obsessive project overall, but the variety of color in the music and the packaging adds just the right amount of backwards question marks to sefice

this was one of those tapes i talked to the bro's about for ages, and it took jase so long to get it to me...or maybe it was just me looosing sleep over it - but there was at one point a listening party for this - thats just special -

“Along with the Prog MP3 disc Jase sent the latest of his rejuvenated Deepkiss 720 releases. This one easily wins the most ridiculous over the top packaging of the year award. I’m not one to dwell on packaging, being of the mind that its what’s inside that counts but a fold out, cut out sheet of eye-boggling collage the size of Andorra deserves special mention. Inside lies a cassette titled Caz World which contains the usual cut up tape malarky that DK720 is renowned for: Ringo swearing, tapes being sped up and cut up, TV samples, screams, punk riffs, disaffected teenagers spill the beans to tweed wrapped social workers whilst an
angry bee tries to singe the hairs in your right ear lobe. Its quite possible that there’s nobody in the UK making noises quite like Deepkiss 720. Long may he run.”

so there has never really been a launching of the beast of all beasts from early early this year - we went over out heads on every aspect of this book and it marks the first publication that is text based - what we have here is 48 full color pages of new art by bff staff and a few from mike gagne and randy made hill gagne - the text is something that ive always wanted to share with people - Ayal Senior's pseudo screenplay err screenplay from the late nineties was pretty amusing, and still is - its a super confident university ayal with about 50000 ideas for really incredible film scenarios - except - at a moment, he ditches the idea and goes to the next - good read even almost ten years later
